The Position
What our previous King Island GP has said about working on King Island:
“From a medical perspective I found the work to
be incredibly satisfying and interesting. Whilst in a very isolated location,
we were comprehensively supported by our retrieval hospital in North West
Tasmania, to whom we regularly transferred the more seriously unwell patients
via the Air Ambulance service. Assistance was a phone call away, and we
were also provided with a sophisticated video networking system direct
to a consultant in the emergency department. We received training in various
extra fields, such as emergency resuscitation, trauma and even performing
our own X rays. All manner of varied cases came our way, from paediatrics
to geriatrics, and the locals were universally extremely supportive and
appreciative of the help that we were able to offer them. Gemini/IPN looked
after all of the running of the practice, assistance with training, Visa’s,
registration etc such that all we really had to do was get on with the
medicine.”

The Practice
The fully computerised clinic currently has two full time GPs, a Practice
Manager and reception and nursing staff are available for support.
Consulting hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm, You will be working nine to ten sessions per week and share After Hours requirements on a 1:2 basis. You will also be required to manage the hospital and aged care patients on the island on a roster system.

Beautiful island location in the Bass Straight between Tasmania and mainland Australia. Excellent beaches offering surfing and snorkelling, fine fresh produce and amazing adventures await you in this remote location. Working in King Island offers you the opportunity to reduce your 10 year moratorium to 5 years.
